Saguaro Benefit Show

The Summer Set of Scottsdale, Arizona recently performed an acoustic set for a benefit show Saguaro High School put on alongside My Girl Friday and Kenny Holland.

Kenny Holland
Kenny Holland of Phoenix, Arizona opened the show and put on an amazing performance. His voice was beautiful and quite infectious and I was amazed to find that he was only 16 years of age. There is a vast amount of talent in that boy and I see big things for him in the future, he is definitely one to look out for. Check out his new single on iTunes titled, So What and be sure to like him on Facebook and Twitter!
Justin Godsey and Tyler Horton of My Girl Friday followed and put on a wonderful show as well though they are a little too country for my taste. They opened with American Kids and even played their rendition of a song called Barefoot Blue Jean Night. Be sure to check out My Girl Friday’s American Kids EP on iTunes, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
Stephen Gomez of The Summer Set
Brian Dales, Stephen Gomez and Josh Montgomery of The Summer Set opened up their set with Walls then leading into When We Were Young. Before WWWY was played, Brian says “This song is about loving. We recently released this video and if you’re under 18, chances are it’s illegal if you watch it. You know that part in Titanic where in the back seat and stuff happens? Yeah well this video is nothing like that.” They also decided to play Last First Kiss, which was said to have been their first time ever playing the song live, it was pretty great. The guys then played their rendition of Whitney Houston’s song I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which was amazing to say the least. A new song, which is rumored to possibly be on their new album, was played and was definitely interesting. They then ended the night with Where Are You Now which could not have been more beautiful however I fancy the version with John Gomez more. For all things The Summer Set be sure to check out their website, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
All in all, it was a great show but I believe they deserved a better crowd. Everyone was sitting down the majority of the time and refused to stand up with the exception of 15 people. These three artists took the time to perform a show that benefited Saguaro High School’s “Project Graduation”, the least these students could have done was stand up and respect them rather than act as if they could care less especially when there are plenty of people who would have loved to be there.
Despite the unfortunate crowd, I’m thankful to have been introduced to a new up and coming artist and to have seen two Arizona bands do what they enjoy.

xoxo,
alicia.
